Our Commitment to EDIA and Training Building a more inclusive innovation landscape Equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) are foundational to Labs4. Our programs are designed to reduce barriers faced by equity-seeking groups in research and entrepreneurship. This includes Indigenous, racialized, newcomers, women, 2SLGBTQIA+ D/deaf, neurodivergent and disabled communities. We embed inclusive practices into program design, governance, and mentorship. The Indigenous Entrepreneurship Stream is led by Indigenous incubators, grounding commercialization support in cultural values and community priorities. Through evidence-based strategies, Labs4 is embedding equity across recruitment, training, mentorship, and partnership development. Each region in our network assesses its unique barriers and opportunities to tailor programming that meets local needs, addresses systemic barriers, and reduces systemic exclusion. Our Commitment Includes: Equity and inclusion training embedded into onboarding and program delivery, reaching hundreds of researcher-entrepreneurs by 2030. Three Indigenous Entrepreneurship Hubs offering culturally grounded programs that support Indigenous participants holistically as sovereign Peoples. Wraparound supports that help researcher-entrepreneurs move from ideas to foster equitable impacts – combining business training, community-driven mentorship, and applied commercialization experience. Importantly, Labs4 leverages the strengths of Canada’s colleges and polytechnics – institutions that reflect the diversity of Canada’s population in both their student bodies and the industries they serve. By working through colleges and polytechnics, Labs4 extends commercialization training and support to a wider range of aspiring researcher-entrepreneurs, including those from minoritized and underrepresented groups and regions. This helps ensure our national innovation system better reflects the full range of Canadian talent and lived experiences.
